Welcome to Mjatreonn
Welcome to Mjatreonn, the amethyst of farspace! Our world prides itself on our diversity of species, and we would love to include you in our ever-growing list of citizens. Curious about our wonderful home? Hop aboard the nearest ship bound for the Skuridjol system! If you aren’t quite ready to book that ticket yet, let us answer some of your questions about life on Mjatreonn!
“Grannies are amazing. They always cook old foods and mix in everything from around the sector, and places much further away, too! Throwing it all in, and when holiday comes, there are more kinds of food on the table than you thought possible! And this smorgasbord of food and experiences represents Mjatreonn: a little from everywhere, and lots of delicious pieces to enjoy! Of course, we cannot dismiss the thought that it may have been our grannies intentionally cooking this way so people move here to join us…”
- Ktolno, a current Magistrate from Mjatreonn
Can my species thrive on Mjatreonn?
It depends! Do you breathe chlorine? Drink Ammonia? Like a temperature of 103K? If the answer is yes to any of these, then sadly, this is not a world for you! Our world is a typical Class Tau planet. Unfortunately, you will gain a bit of weight as our gravity is about 3.4% greater than the median. Our atmosphere is a typical oxygen-nitrogen atmosphere; good comfortable breaths can be taken here. We promise the air is super fresh from our purple plants! The atmosphere is slightly thicker, so for many, the radiation is lower than the norm, and about 43% of the surface is land, offering more than enough ocean to swim in or sail on if that strikes your fancy. We have a nice cosey temperature of 300K on average.
Who lives here?
Right now, our population is about 62% of our native Skuridj, 21% human, 11% various farspace species, and 6% various Concert species. No matter where you belong, there’s a community waiting to welcome you!
Who are the Skuridj? What is this, a follow up question within our question? Well, it’s more than allowed, since our native population makes up the majority of the people who will be your neighbours.
How does one describe the Skuridj… Think of an Chinese Dragon, then give it humanoid features. Our photographer is out on one of their guaranteed vacations, but as soon as she gets back in town, we’ll have some art to share with you. A skuridj stands about 190cm, or 6’3’’ for those of you who use the lesser known measurements, and while you should never ask a Skuridj their weight, we can safely inform you that most healthy individuals are between 60 and 110 kg, or 500 and 900 bananas.
Perhaps the most distinctive trait for people whose experience with xenos is limited is our tails, which extend on average about 110 cm and have a mane of hair-like feathers running down the spine. That actually extends up and is what humans might call our hair! Celebrities use rouge to make our reddish-orange skin even redder, and lately many have started highlighting our aqua eyes with lavender eyeshadow. You can always tell who’s up on the latest fashion, and you can find the recent trends in FashioneX magazine, the top multispecies style magazine in all of farspace, produced right here in Mjatreonn! But no matter how stylish someone is, it’s always a good compliment to tell someone that their facial whiskers are looking sleek, as the two long whiskers that extend from just under our nose are a point of pride for virtually everyone and add to our dragon-esque appeal.
What will I see out my window?
Depends on the direction it is facing, doesn’t it? We on Majtreonn are proud of our world's natural and unusual flora and fauna. You may hear our world referred to as the amethyst of farspace, and this lovely title comes from our flora, which has a strong purple hue due to our orange sun. But don’t think plants are the only thing we have! No no, we have some lovely fungiplants of green, yellow, and red varieties, including the Spiked Dvosajl, often found growing on the trunks of snipmin pines and sporting emerald and ruby spots. The beautiful display of fungiplants and flora growing together creates a mesmerising display of colours in the vast forests and jungles.
Now, be careful, because we have plenty of animal life, too! Most of it is relatively friendly, but plenty of our four- and six-legged critters can give you a run for your irrium! The Pelusini deer is one of our prized species of the friendlier sort, and their six legs and lovely bluish fur helps them blend into the flora. These little rascals will hop out of hiding to steal any food you have, so make sure to pick up when you’re in their territory!
At night, our forests are thick with beautiful bioluminescent creatures to give you a magical show before you tuck in for sleep, with flickerfast bees creating a moving, flashing tapestry of colours while the diurnal creatures rest.
But do not stray too far into the forest at night, for some say that in the midst of the dancing flickerfast bees, a ghastly figure wanders. Some say it has four legs, others claim it walks on two like a human, but the Midnight Dancer is said to come to all who stray too close to the dancing lights of the flickerfast bee.
Is Mjatreonn hiring?
We have yet to be rid of unemployment, so we think so! We have a wide array of industries that require employees. The isochium refining and processing is of utmost importance to us as ships travel by and need their fuel. We are currently encouraging development within the discrete drive industry, and welcome anyone with knowledge and experience within!
Now, some of you may have heard about the crash of the 26120s that wiped out isochium processing for the entire sector. Well, we’re glad to say that our economy has fully rebounded and continues to blossom more each day! Our production plants are now governed by regulations initially developed by TCCMC that will make sure our future is disaster-free!
And if you’re entrepreneurially minded, we offer reduced taxes to anyone willing to set up companies and industries within the sectors we view as the future of Mjatreonn.
How will my voice be heard?
Did anyone say something? Probably not… Of course your voice will be heard! Mjatreonn is proud of having been a democracy for 600 years! If we include pre-unification, that goes up to a thousand years of democracy! With just a few bumps along the way.
In the modern incarnation, we elect our representatives for the senate, and they are creatively called the Senators. The election of senators is done in districts using the mixed-member proportional representation system. We believe this allows both a personal relationship with senators and that as a party they can work toward greater goals together.
Our senators then elect the two magistrates from amongst themselves, one from each planet in our Dual Democracy. Mjatreonn elects their magistrate in even years, our sister planet Kjomfii in odd, and the magistrate sits for a 2 year term. A senator may not be a magistrate for consecutive terms. Once elected, the magistrates jointly decide the ministers to help with running the executive branch. We believe it is a good way to ensure that no one becomes too addicted to executive power.
How did the Dual Democracy come to be?
That is a long tale! So we’ll tell you the abbreviated version. The very early days were not too special on the interstellar level. We did, however, have the fortune of having a second planet in our solar system that housed complex life. We set a course for it and colonised it. All of our many nations sent their own colony ships there, and they interacted peacefully.
The colonies grew over decades and started to see themselves as distinct from us. Long story short, they demanded independence, we weren’t willing to give it, and it led to war. It was long and drawn out, with a lot of horrors. War is always an ugly thing. But the war brought all of the nations on Mjatreonn together to form a united front, and the various colonies similarly came together as one united colonial world. Eventually, the war was concluded with no real winner, and both planets decided to work together as equals instead of one being colony and the other master, creating a unified system of government formally known as the Dual Democracy of Mjatreonn and Kjomfii that honours our differences while demonstrating our shared goals.
What three things should I visit or do first upon arriving?
Imagine driving through clouds, so soft and white… Actually wait, they’re pretty misty and make driving hard to see! Well, never fear! The Smimin Bridge, though it connects two mountain peaks so high in the sky as to frequently see clouds, is protected by what one could call a type of nentrowebbing to keep the path free and clear. Each mountain peak is home to a traditional shrine and what were once bustling cities, now turned to tourist sites. Ancient Skuridj built an enormous bridge to walk on: truly a feat of ancient times! Now our bridge is designed for all of the modern comforts and stands as a testament to our innovative and groundbreaking infrastructure–or in this case, cloudbreaking!
After admiring our infrastructure, you might be looking for a way to connect with the culture and also get a good meal in. A large part of Mjolatreonn culture is our connection to Kjomfii, and the Dual Obelisk honours that bond. The massive stone obelisk towers over the surrounding forests, a mark of civilization in the wilderness, inspired by how our people conquered the untamed lands of Kjomfii and developed into the dual people we have today.
Normally, visiting the Obelisks is a tradition for visitors, but this year, we have something even more exciting in store when you wander down well-kept paths to the base of the magnificent structures. You see, Kjomfii has an identical monument, and every fifty years, the Obelisks line up. In the months leading up to the Unification of Obelisks, as it’s called, there are nightly celebrations with fireworks and plenty of good food. During the day, both planets have Obelisk Markets around the Obelisk square selling all kinds of food and trinkets from all around known space. It’s well worth the trek!
What else does Mjatreonn have to offer? Just one more thing to even out your experience and add a little excitement to your life. Imagine climbing halfway up the great mountain overlooking the capital city of Ktanni. The vast amethyst forest stretches below, distant and indistinct at this height. What do you do? Why, you jump, of course! Yes, this is levgliding, where you’ll zip down the mountainside and tour through the forest using the same technology that makes our levcars stay afloat.
Worried about careening into the ground? Why, there hasn’t been a fatality in years! Just kidding. We take safety very seriously on Mjatreonn. Each levgliding operator undergoes rigorous screening and routine testing to ensure the highest level of safety. If you have a fear of heights, give this one a pass, but otherwise, it’s a must-do activity!
What does the future hold for Mjatreonn?
Lots of glorious things! If we get to decide, that is! We hope that our industries in discrete drives will continue to grow, and we can become one of the leading developers of civilian discrete drives. It will be a long journey requiring a lot of expertise, but we believe we can make it come true.
We also see a future in isochium and developing the technologies relevant to that. This is in part due to the discrete drive using it as fuel but also because we feel that the current safety of isochium extraction and refinement is not sufficient, and we wish to make better and safer methods so more people can enjoy the cosmos.
On top of that, we will continue to develop our own views as a people and the way we do news as a star nation increasingly more defined by our smorgasbord of people. While we certainly do not believe we can ever rival Stellinews, we firmly hope to someday cooperate with them.
